
Kurt Carlson was first introduced to glassblowing at Buck’s County Community College. After his graduation in 1978 he continued studying at The Penfield School and at “The Studio” in Corning, New York. He further enhanced his skills while studying sculpting at the Pittsburgh Glass Center and more recently Ross Richmond's class in Eugene, Oregon.
Lynda Pownall-Carlson was raised by artist parents in Chicago, At the age of 5,
a crayon mural she created was accepted for The Annual Scholastic Exhibit at the Art Institution. Her formal studies took place at The University of Mexico and Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. She has also trained at “The Studio” in Corning, New York.
The work they produce is a collaborative effort, consists of contemporary and elegant glass sculptural pieces. Kurt does the hot sculpting and glass blowing. Lynda adds detailing to the glass by sandblasting designs into the glass, which are then enhanced with hand painted enamels and fired.
Kurt and Lynda started Carlson Glassworks in 1992. They have two assistants who also contribute to their work.
